The Three of Wands card can be personified as an adventurer who explores uncharted territory, looks ahead, and behaves as a leader. Sanjo fits this role well in his own unique way. I haven't seen much of the series he's from, Saiyuki, but I've enjoyed what I've seen so far. Yeah it's a fanservice to turn the characters from the Chinese legend into handsome twenty-something-year-olds, but the essence of the story didn't seem to change.
